About The Position

This position is for a Tutor for the PRINCIPLES OF CHEMISTRY course (CHM1711 LAB) during the Fall 2026 semester. The tutor will be responsible for preparing and giving DGDs (demonstration/discussion groups), moderating the CHM Forum on the website, and proctoring a final exam. The total work hours for this position are 65, with specific allocations for preparation (15 hours) and contact with students (42 hours). Undergraduate students will be paid at a rate of $31.89/hour, while graduate students will be paid at $50.25/hour. These rates do not include vacation or statutory pay and are subject to change upon ratification of a new collective agreement.

Requirements

  • Must have successfully completed one year of general chemistry.
  • Must have successfully completed one year of organic chemistry.
  • Must have successfully completed CHM 2554.
  • Must have successfully completed CHM 2531/2532 or their equivalents.
  • Must have successfully completed workshops on the Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) and the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA).
  • All individuals who are not graduate students in chemistry must pass a qualifying test (unless already completed in the previous semester).

Responsibilities

  • Give and prepare DGDs (demonstration/discussion groups).
  • Moderate the CHM Forum on the website.
  • Proctor a final exam.
