About The Position

North Orange Continuing Education is accepting applications for an online Tutor to work in the High School Diploma Lab at the Anaheim Campus. This role involves providing individual and small group tutoring to Basic Skills students, integrating study and learning strategies to foster independent learning. Tutors will assist students in improving academic achievement by clarifying learning problems and developing study skills. This may include reviewing class material, discussing texts and lecture notes, predicting test questions, formulating ideas, or working on problem solutions.

Requirements

  • Extensive coursework in English and Math.
  • Proficient communication skills to clearly explain concepts to students.
  • Communicate effectively in a timely manner with supervisor(s).
  • Commitment to diversity.
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty and staff.
  • Ability to demonstrate how their experience with these factors relates to successfully achieving the goals of the position.

Nice To Haves

  • The ability to address the needs of diverse and underrepresented students.
  • Experience in tutoring.
  • Experience with adult learners in a community college setting.
  • Possession of an AA or BA.

Responsibilities

  • Attend a two (2) hour tutor training, which will include a program overview and Learning Center policies and procedures.
  • Adhere to your assigned tutor schedule and be punctual to each shift.
  • Act in a professional manner, and work with a significant degree of independence and good judgment.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
