About The Position

The tutor student employee is responsible for providing individual and small group tutoring to prepare, advance or remediate students in specific academic areas. This role supports the mission of the University and serves as an ambassador of the Q2 culture of service excellence. The tutor will model, support, and hold others accountable to the University’s values. They will identify students’ academic needs and assist them toward improvement, review class assignments, content or standards, discuss content with students, and re-teach when needed. Responding to the needs of students, colleagues, and community members in a timely and courteous manner is essential. The tutor will effectively communicate study strategies to ensure academic success, modify and develop tutoring methods to meet each student’s different needs and learning styles, and provide student progress updates and feedback to appropriate parties. Additionally, they will teach and model studying, note-taking, and test-taking skills and strategies, and research and recommend supplemental texts, computer games or apps, equipment, or other learning materials to further promote academic success. Job may require other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled at Lindenwood University
  • Good academic and financial standing with the university
  • Academic major, minor or other demonstrated expertise related to position’s subject matter focus
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures
  • Thorough understanding and knowledge of subjects and skills being taught
  • Creates positive learning environment by exhibiting patience and optimism
  • Ability to effectively explain concepts to others
  • Ability to maintain professional relationships with students, faculty and staff
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a proven ability to communicate professionally with students and educators
  • Thorough understanding of multiple learning styles and effective methods of instruction
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of all records and conversations regarding student academic accomplishments and struggles
  • Ability to foster students’ self-confidence by offering encouragement, positive reinforcement and constructive feedback
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, Canvas (learning management system) and related software
