About The Position
The College of Southern Nevada (CSN) is seeking part-time tutors to support students through the Centers for Academic Success. Tutors will provide academic assistance by helping students improve their understanding of course material, develop effective study skills, and strengthen their academic success strategies. Tutoring services may be provided in person or online and are designed to supplement classroom instruction.
Requirements
- Have at least 12 hours of undergraduate work with an earned overall college grade point average of at least 3.0 (transcripts must be submitted)
- Have earned a B or higher in the subject applying to tutor
- Demonstrate effective communication and interpersonal skills while working with students from varied backgrounds and skill levels
- Demonstrate knowledge of effective study skills and strategies during tutoring sessions and interviews
- Provide a recommendation from a faculty member that teaches the subject you wish to tutor
Nice To Haves
- Previous tutorial experience in subject matter is a definite plus
- Writing Assistant Applicants: One Academic Paper (writing sample)
Responsibilities
- Provide tutoring to students as an employee of Centers for Academic Success
- Assist students in improving academic achievement by meeting with them in person or online to clarify learning problems and work on study skills
- Review class material, discuss best approaches to reading the text, predict test questions, formulate ideas for papers, and work on solutions to problems
- Provide support that supplements classroom teaching
