About The Position

The Tutor - English 101 Corequisite supports students’ writing process in collaboration with an English 101 professor. The tutor co-facilitates support during twice-weekly class sessions alongside another corequisite tutor, meets weekly with the professor to plan sessions, and communicates student learning concerns. The position also includes professional training and other job-related duties as assigned. The advertised pay is $12.00 per hour, and the role is located at Washburn University.

Requirements

• Successfully completed EN101 and/or EN200 with a grade of B or higher.
• Currently enrolled at Washburn University.
• Available to attend a half-day pre-semester training.
• Professionalism.
• Ability to interact with other students in a supportive fashion.
• Excellent written and verbal communication.
• Interpersonal skills.

Nice To Haves

• Prior experience in a writing center or other teaching or tutoring context.
• General interest in education.

Responsibilities

• Co-facilitate support sessions with another corequisite tutor twice each week.
• Attend a brief weekly meeting with the course professor to check in and plan support sessions.
• Inform the professor if students appear to be struggling with particular concepts or other matters relevant to their learning.
• Participate in professional trainings.
• Perform additional job-related duties as assigned.
