About The Position

The Tumor Registrar Coordinator performs, coordinates and completes the duties of the Cancer Registry, and maintains the standards outlined by the American College of Surgeons. The Coordinator develops, implements, and revises the Cancer Program and Cancer Registry policy and procedures, and conducts patient care evaluations and studies. This position, also, performs systematic follow-up of all living patients, to obtain end results information on the quality and length of survival, and to promote the continuing medical care of the cancer patient.

Requirements

  • Associate degree required
  • 1 year of Tumor Registrar experience required
  • Certified Tumor Registry (CTR) or Oncology Data Specialist - Certified (ODS-C) required

Nice To Haves

  • Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) preferred

Responsibilities

  • Abstract cancer-related data according to ICD-10 American College of Surgeons, American Joint Commission on Cancer (AJCC) and other standard setters to generate reports regarding cancer surveillance and improvement of care.
  • Assist in performing quality assurance reviews.
  • Submit data monthly, quarterly or annually to the Indiana Department of Health, Rapid Cancer Reporting System and National Cancer Data Base as required by each standard setter, ensuring compliance to all rules and regulations.
  • Coordinate, plan, and assist with arrangements for cancer conferences and Cancer Committee meetings.
  • Monitor, report and record tumor registry activities to ensure compliance with Commission on Cancer (CoC) and other accreditations (NAPRC, NAPBC, etc.).
  • Assist in the coordination and documentation of the quarterly accreditation meetings.
  • Educate the Cancer Committee on the understanding of the current Commission on Cancer, NAPBC and/or NAPRC standards as applicable.
  • Gather and code patient, cancer and treatment information from numerous sources; maintain and update existing patient records and verify/review cancer registry data and corrects any discrepancies.
  • Perform follow-up of all living patients to obtain end results information on the quality and length of survival and to promote the continuing medical care of the cancer patient.
  • Process data requests, compile reports and calculate statistics from the tumor registry.
  • Review patient cases, identify potential cases for the registry and assess whether the case is reportable, is already reported, or could potentially be recorded in a file of non-reportable cases.
