Trustworthy AI Intern
About The Position
MITRE’s Trustworthy & Secure AI Department seeks a motivated, adaptive, and self-directed intern to contribute to research, development, engineering, evaluation, and integration of secure AI systems. The department works across government, industry, and academia to develop and assess trustworthy and secure AI systems for complex mission needs. Its work includes AI risk awareness and mitigation, AI red teaming, and trusted tools and techniques for applying AI in high-consequence environments. The position offers opportunities to work on real-world AI assurance challenges and prototype methods that address mission needs.
Requirements
- Proficiency in Python.
- Familiarity with PyTorch, TensorFlow, and/or LangChain frameworks.
- Prior AI/ML coursework.
- Sustained academic excellence.
Nice To Haves
- Prior internship experience in AI/ML.
- Prior experience working with LLMs or AI security.
- Experience using AI coding assistants such as Codex.
- Demonstrated interest in public sector work.
- Interest in AI security and assurance.
Responsibilities
- Work in cross-functional teams to develop and implement AI/ML solutions, including capabilities that use LLM technology.
- Analyze AI use cases and recommend secure and trustworthy solutions to sponsors.
- Evaluate technology solutions in the context of mission data and workflow needs, and provide actionable recommendations.
- Prototype AI- and/or LLM-based tools to meet operational needs.
