About The Position

Performs landfill tasks to contain loose refuse and prevent scattering, direct traffic, and support site maintenance. The role involves manually collecting windblown paper, operating a tractor-pulled mobile vacuum to remove loose paper and refuse along landfill boundaries, directing truck traffic during busy summer periods, lifting materials for maintenance projects, using hand tools, and manually separating recyclable or reusable materials from trash at landfills with a transfer station. This is an on-site, safety-sensitive position requiring strict compliance with safety rules and protocols. The successful candidate may be subject to drug and alcohol testing under government regulations and company policies.

Responsibilities

Manually pick up windblown paper along the landfill perimeter and adjacent exterior land, placing it in a large plastic trash bag.
Operate a tractor pulling a mobile vacuum along the landfill boundary and use the vacuum hose to collect loose paper and refuse from fences and the ground.
Direct the flow of trucks at the landfill entrance during periods of unusually heavy summer traffic, communicating with drivers verbally or with hand signals.
Lift construction materials, including lumber and bags of concrete mix, for site maintenance projects.
Use hand tools such as shovels, picks, axes, and chain saws.
Manually separate metal, white goods, lumber, and cardboard from trash on the tipping floor at landfills with a transfer station.
Follow all safety rules and protocols.
