About The Position

This role involves assisting with donation pick-ups by riding in a Salvation Army truck, lifting and hauling items, and ensuring the safety and security of donations. The position also includes assisting customers in the store, stocking and arranging items, maintaining store displays, and performing cleaning activities. Responsibilities include navigating for the truck driver, preparing donation receipts, maintaining good relationships with donors, unloading donations at the warehouse, loading trucks for disposal, delivering purchased items, and performing routine vehicle maintenance. In the store, the role involves assisting customers with donations and purchases, explaining store policies, stocking shelves, answering the phone, and maintaining a clean and inviting store environment.

Requirements

Ability to meet attendance requirements.
Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language.
Ability to read and follow a map and/or hand-written directions.
Ability to perform strenuous, heavy work involving the lifting and carrying of heavy objects.
Ability to perform continuous walking, stooping, standing and some climbing and ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
Ability to remain and become certified for job specific certifications. licenses and trainings.
Physical ability to lift and carry and/or push/pull heavy objects (less than 100lbs).
No formal education required.
Six months experience lifting and hauling heavy items such as appliances and furniture, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Valid State Driver's License.

Responsibilities

Assists in picking-up donations by riding in a Salvation Army truck and lifting, carrying, and/or hauling donations into the truck and unloading the same at the warehouse.
Assists in navigating for the Truck Driver.
Ensures the accountability, security, and safety of the donations when in route.
Assists in maintaining the vehicle in proper working order and in compliance with established standards.
Assists customers in donating, locating and/or selecting store items.
Stocks and arranges store items in a neat and orderly manner.
Monitors the store displays and performs various cleaning activities to ensure the store is properly maintained.
Rides in a Salvation Army truck on a scheduled route in order to pick-up donated items.
Assists in navigating driver to destinations by reading a map and/or hand-written directions.
Inspects donated items briefly to ensure they can be used according to established policies and procedures; explains policy to customers regarding the types of items that can be accepted.
Lifts, carries, and/or hauls donations into truck; packs items in truck in a manner that maximizes use of space, protects items from damage, and ensures safety.
Prepares donation receipts for customers; ensures the accuracy and completeness of the same.
Maintains good relationship with donors to promote a favorable image of The Salvation Army.
Unloads donations from truck upon arrival at warehouse; distributes items to appropriate locations in the warehouse.
Loads truck of items to be taken to the dump.
Delivers appliances and furniture purchased by customers.
Performs routine maintenance of the truck; checks fluid levels on a regular basis; coordinates and may participate in repair work as needed.
Assists customers by explaining store policy and responding to questions regarding the pricing and/or purchasing of items; ensures that all customers visiting the store have a pleasant experience.
Assists customers who are donating items to The Salvation Army; directs customers to the proper loading/unloading area; may assist with hauling donations to the storage area; prepares and provides tax receipts as needed.
Places and arranges items in the store as directed; checks all store displays to ensure that items are maintained and displayed in a neat and orderly manner; rotates and/or rearranges stock as directed; returns items to the proper location after customer's have handled.
Answers the store telephone in a tactful and courteous manner; assists customers by responding to questions and providing directions and/or general information; may schedule and record donation pick-ups.
Cleans all display racks and shelves; sweeps and mops floors; cleans windows and mirrors; ensures that the store is maintained in a clean and inviting manner.
