About The Position

This position is responsible for assisting in picking up donations by riding in a Salvation Army truck, lifting, carrying, and hauling donations into the truck and unloading them at the warehouse/store. The role also involves assisting the Truck Driver with navigation, ensuring the accountability, security, and safety of donations in transit, and helping maintain the vehicle. Additionally, the Store Clerk & Truck Helper assists store customers with donations, selections, and purchases, operates a cash register, answers customer questions, maintains store displays, and ensures the security of store items and the cash register.

Requirements

High school diploma or G.E.D.
Six months experience lifting and hauling heavy items such as appliances and furniture.
One year experience working in a retail store.
Six months working on a cash register.
Ability to perform strenuous, heavy work involving the lifting and carrying of heavy objects.
Ability to perform continuous walking, stooping, standing, and some climbing.
Valid State Driver's License may be required.

Responsibilities

Rides in a Salvation Army truck on a scheduled route to pick up donated items.
Assists in navigating the driver to destinations by reading a map and/or hand-written directions.
Lifts, carries, and hauls donations into the truck, packing items to maximize space, protect from damage, and ensure safety.
Places and arranges items in the store as directed.
Checks store displays to ensure items are maintained and displayed neatly and orderly.
Rotates and/or rearranges stock as directed.
Returns items to the proper location after customer handling.
Maintains the neatness and security of the cash register area.
Ensures that forms, bags, etc. are adequately stocked.
