About The Position

Penske Truck Leasing seeks a Hiker (Vehicle Transporter/Truck Driver) to deliver vehicles to Penske locations and customers and return vehicles to Penske locations. The role primarily moves box trucks up to 26 feet; drivers with a Class A CDL may also move tractors and trailers. The position may assist the service department by delivering parts and equipment.

This is a casual, on-call, part-time driving position for licensed Class B or Class A CDL drivers seeking supplemental income. Work may range from 0 to 25 hours per week depending on business needs. Availability for daytime work during the week is required. The role is regulated by the Department of Transportation or designated safety-sensitive, requiring alert and safe work, a current driver qualification file, and compliance with applicable DOT requirements.

Requirements

• At least 2 years of driving experience.
• At least 2 years of a clean motor vehicle record (DMV).
• Valid Class B CDL; applicants must be domiciled in the U.S. and licensed in their state of residence.
• Ability to read and follow written instructions.
• Ability to work independently, customer service and organizational skills, and a positive attitude.
• English language proficiency, as required under 49 C.F.R. 391.11(b)(2).
• Regular, predictable, full attendance.
• Maintain a current driver qualification file, including an annual MVR check, a successfully completed DOT physical, and safety performance history requests from prior employers for the last 3 years.
• CDL holders must complete a DOT drug screening within 30 days of starting and are subject to an FMCSA Clearinghouse review.
• Willingness to travel as necessary, work the required schedule and location, complete the employment application, and submit to a background investigation and drug screening.
• Ability to remain alert and work safely, accepting responsibility for personal safety and the safety of others.
• Ability to see and hear, with close, distance, and peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
• Ability to legally operate a motor vehicle and frequently enter and exit the vehicle and rear cargo area.
• Ability to move frequently, stand, walk, sit, use hands to touch, handle, and feel, and reach with hands and arms.
• Ability to regularly lift or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 100 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Follow appropriate safety procedures while driving trucks to Penske or customer locations.
• Inspect vehicles to ensure mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment is in good working order, and report issues to the location manager.
• Obtain receipts or signatures for delivered goods and collect payment for services when required.
• Report vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, or vehicle damage.
• Deliver parts and equipment for the service department when needed.
• Complete other projects and tasks as assigned by the supervisor.
