About The Position

The Truck Driver transports freight between Dollar General distribution centers, stores, and vendors, providing on-time deliveries and handling returns, backhauls, and rolltainers. The role involves multi-stop interstate and intrastate deliveries, safely operating the vehicle, and unloading and reloading freight at stores and consolidation points. The driver also provides professional customer service, completes required paperwork, and follows applicable Dollar General policies and state and federal regulations.

Requirements

• Knowledge of applicable Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations.
• Ability to meet DOT medical and safety standards, including required drug and alcohol testing.
• Ability to squat, crouch, and reach to handle freight.
• Ability to enter and exit the vehicle cab numerous times each day.
• Ability to push and pull rolltainers weighing approximately 1,200 pounds.
• Ability to manually release fifth-wheel levers and tandem pins, requiring horizontal pulling with 100 pounds of force at heights of 44 inches and 38 inches.
• Ability to occasionally lift, carry, or move freight weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to install and remove tire chains, hook and unhook trailers, and secure freight.
• One year of previous tractor-trailer driving experience.
• Valid Class A commercial driver's license (CDL).

Responsibilities

• Transport store-delivery freight, returns, and backhauls over the road safely, efficiently, and on time, while following Dollar General policies and state and federal regulations.
• Unload and reload freight and rolltainers at each delivery, including moving rolltainers from the trailer to store backrooms and placing topper boxes on U-boats in store backrooms.
• Reload return rolltainers and product, including cardboard, totes, and empties, and return them to the distribution center or a consolidation point.
• At consolidation points, transfer rolltainers between trailers as needed to prepare an empty trailer for a vendor.
• Secure all freight and rolltainers at each stop before sealing the trailer.
• Provide professional customer service to store teams, backhaul vendors, and distribution employees.
• Complete necessary paperwork and maintain records required by state and federal laws and regulations.
• Operate the vehicle in compliance with all state and federal laws and regulations.
