About The Position

The Truck Driver – Heavy operates commercial and military-style heavy vehicles to transport Army equipment, materiel, and supplies in support of U.S. Army equipment turn-in site operations. The driver supports inbound and outbound movements, mass turn-ins, and local and line-haul operations, ensuring government property is delivered, staged, and documented properly. The position requires a valid Commercial Driver’s License and compliance with U.S. Army, DOT, OSHA, and contract requirements. The role includes operating heavy trucks, tractor-trailers, and flatbeds; supporting equipment turn-ins; loading, securing, and unloading cargo; conducting vehicle inspections; maintaining driver and vehicle records; completing transportation documents; and updating Army logistics and transportation systems when required. The driver also supports site staging and scheduled pickups and deliveries, communicates transportation updates, and safeguards government property. This is an onsite position involving work indoors and outdoors in warehouse and field environments. It may involve periodic overtime and exposure to heat, dust, cold, adverse weather, high or low humidity, blowing sand and dust, confined spaces, and heights. The role requires lifting up to 50 pounds and routine standing, walking, bending, and reaching. Travel within the United States may be required. Compensation is $23.17 per hour, plus $5.09 per hour worked for health and welfare.

Requirements

Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), Class A or B as required.
3–5 years of heavy truck driving experience.
Knowledge of DOT/FMCSA safety regulations.
Knowledge of Army transportation regulations, including AR 55-355, AR 710-2, and DTR 4500.9-R.
Knowledge of Army forms and documentation requirements for vehicle and equipment movement.
Ability to safely operate heavy trucks, tractor-trailers, and material handling equipment (MHE).
Strong attention to detail for load securement and documentation.
Good communication skills for coordination with Army units and site staff.
Ability to work in high-tempo environments with shifting priorities.
Must have a Real ID.
Must be able to travel within the United States when needed.
Must have a valid Texas state driver’s license and proof of vehicle insurance.
Must be able to obtain and maintain a Common Access Card (CAC).
Must be able to obtain Tier 1/NACI (Public Trust) background eligibility.
Basic English proficiency, including reading and writing.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
Must receive favorable background check and drug testing results.
Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and perform routine standing, walking, bending, and reaching tasks.
Must meet physical requirements for work in extreme heat or cold, high or low humidity, blowing sand and dust, confined spaces, heights, and other inclement weather conditions.

Nice To Haves

High school diploma or equivalent.
Army OF 346 military driver’s license; it may be obtained onsite.
HAZMAT endorsement; required if hauling hazardous materials.
Prior Army or contractor logistics experience.
Familiarity with military or government cargo movement.

Responsibilities

Operate heavy trucks, tractor-trailers, and flatbeds to transport vehicles, equipment, and Class IX materiel.
Haul assets from Army units to the site or other designated locations in support of equipment turn-in operations.
Assist with loading, securing, and unloading cargo using chains, binders, straps, and blocking or bracing.
Conduct local and long-haul missions in compliance with Army movement requirements and DTR 4500.9-R.
Perform Preventive Maintenance Checks and Services (PMCS) before, during, and after operations.
Report vehicle deficiencies and coordinate repairs in accordance with Army and company maintenance procedures.
Maintain driver logs, trip tickets, fuel records, and inspection sheets.
Complete shipping and transportation documents, including DD Form 1348-1A, DD Form 626, DD Form 836, TCMDs, and bills of lading.
Comply with DOT regulations, Army safety standards, and HAZMAT transportation rules.
Update Army logistics and transportation systems, including TC-AIMS II and GCSS-Army, when required.
Follow OSHA, Army, and company safety procedures during operations.
Ensure proper load securement and weight distribution before vehicle movement.
Safeguard government property and immediately report accidents, incidents, or discrepancies.
Assist warehouse and supply teams with staging and positioning vehicles and equipment.
Support mass turn-in events by coordinating scheduled pickups and deliveries.
Provide transportation updates to the Transportation Coordinator and Site Manager.
Perform other duties as assigned.
