About The Position

Drives truck with capacity of more than 3 tons, to transport materials to and from specified destinations, by performing the following duties. This role requires flatbed driving experience and adherence to safety regulations. The driver will be responsible for vehicle maintenance checks, loading and unloading materials, securing loads, and maintaining accurate driver logs. Additionally, the position involves following traffic laws, performing safety inspections, using navigation tools like maps and GPS, and verifying cargo against shipping papers. The driver will also prepare receipts, communicate with supervisors for delivery instructions, and perform emergency roadside repairs as needed.

Requirements

  • Flatbed driving experience.
  • Class A commercial license
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • CDL A license or level required for position

Nice To Haves

  • One year certificate from college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare reports (i.e. safety reports)
  • Examine vehicle to detect malfunctions, damage, or maintenance needed
  • Service vehicle with water, fuel, or oil
  • Load, unload, or stack containers, materials, or products
  • Strap/secure loads (tarp/unload tarp when required)
  • Maintain driver log according to I.C.C. regulations
  • Use established traffic/ transportation procedures follow traffic laws
  • Perform safety inspections in transportation setting
  • Read maps - use geographic positioning system (GPS)
  • Use local or regional geographical knowledge to transportation
  • Use weighing or measuring devices in transportation
  • Verify cargo against shipping papers
  • Prepares receipts for load picked up.
  • Maintains telephone or radio contact with supervisor to receive delivery instructions.
  • Performs emergency roadside repairs as required.
  • Positions blocks and ties rope/straps around items to secure cargo during transit.
