Part-Time TRiO Assistive Technology Specialist

About The Position

Funded by the U.S. Department of Education, Office of Postsecondary Education’s Student Support Services Program, this part-time position will provide support services to students from low-income backgrounds, first-generation college students, and students with disabilities to increase their rates of retention, graduation, and persistence to graduation. The TRiO Assistive Technology Specialist is part of the instruction and support network for the Carlow SSS TRiO project and will design and facilitate workshops that enable students to learn and apply assistive technologies and digital literacy skills.

Proven technology skills and possess a strong degree of comfort with hardware, software, and web-based applications.

Nice To Haves

Master’s degree in instructional design, assistive technology, or a related field.

Responsibilities

Develop and instruct workshops and supplemental instruction regarding assistive technologies, including technologies available through University licenses as well as individual applications for use on student devices.
Design and instruct student workshops and reviews focused on the use of various assistive technologies.
Develop and maintain a caseload of SSS students who use assistive technologies, including meeting with students as needed and providing follow-up while working collaboratively with Disability Services Office (DSO) staff.
Build and maintain a small caseload of approximately 30 students through facilitating workshops focused on self-management skills.
Maintain student records in a confidential manner in accordance with FERPA and ADA requirements.
Communicate with interested parties as needed and as appropriate.
Create and update informational and instructional sheets and digital pages related to assistive technologies.
Collaborate with the Information Technology (IT) Department and Procurement in the purchase and maintenance of software, web-based applications, and licenses.
Research and assist with budgeting for new products for student use.
Attend meetings as scheduled and attend orientation events.
Perform other related duties as required or assigned.
