About The Position

The Tribal Police Officer performs law enforcement work in the preservation of the peace, the prevention, detection, and investigation of crimes; the arrest or apprehension of violators, and the provision of assistance to citizens in emergencies, including the protection of civil rights. This position assures compliance with tribal, federal, state, county, and municipal laws and ordinances, and agency rules and regulations pertaining law enforcement work.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED)
  • Possess or obtain CLEET certification, First Aid, and CPR certifications and maintain throughout employment
  • Must be a minimum age of 21 at time of application
  • Possess a valid driver's license with a driving history verified through a motor vehicle report that meets requirements for Cherokee Nation underwriting rating
  • Possess or obtain basic Council on Law Enforcement Education Training or Federal Law Enforcement Center certificate within one (1) year of hire and maintain throughout employment
  • Must not be and will not be under sanction by the United States Department of Health and Human Services Office of the Inspector General (OIG) or by the General Services Administration (GSA) or listed on the OIG's Cumulative Sanction Report, or the GSA's List of Excluded Providers, or listed on the OIG's List of Excluded Individuals/Entities (LEIE)
  • Must live within Tribal Jurisdictional Service Area
  • Must meet and maintain periodic background adjudication for law enforcement
  • Must meet and maintain firearms qualifications annually
  • Must meet and maintain eligibility for Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) deputation and have no restrictions from testifying in any federal, tribal, and state court while employed with Cherokee Nation Marshal Service (CNMS)
  • Must pass the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI)
  • Must comply with Cherokee Nation Office of the Marshal policies, procedures, and code of conduct
