About The Position

Works under the Harvest Program Supervisor and the Tribal Fishery Education Technician with fishing the education set net. The Tribal Fishery Education Assistant is responsible for picking fish from the net, sorting, proper vacuum packing, and fish distribution. This role provides support in species reporting requirements and documentation of all cultural activities on a daily basis. The assistant also helps with cleaning all equipment needed for the fishery operation, maintaining a good working relationship with co-workers and Tribal Members, and representing the Tribe positively in the community. Additionally, the position assists in keeping all sites clean, orderly, and safe, and supports entry-level operations for Harvest activities under the Kenaitze Indian Tribe's Educational Fishery Plan and policies.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 16 years of age
  • Experience in picking and vacuum sealing fish
  • Current Alaska Drivers' License

Nice To Haves

  • Able and willing to work unusual hours, determined by weather and tide
  • Ability to read and understand a tide book and knot tying
  • Willingness to learn the language, culture and history of the Dena'ina people

Responsibilities

  • Picking fish from the net, sorting, proper vacuum packing, and fish distribution
  • Provides support in species reporting requirements and documentation of all cultural activities on a daily basis
  • Assists with cleaning all equipment needed in the operation of the fishery, including nets, buoys, lines, vehicles and fish cleaning stations
  • Maintain a good working relationship with co-workers and Tribal Members
  • Be a good representation of the Tribe, as the position is highly visible in community
  • Assists with keeping all sites clean, orderly and safe as well as drug and alcohol free
  • Assists with the entry level operations for the Harvest activities under the Kenaitze Indian Tribe's Educational Fishery Plan and the Tribes policies and procedures
