About The Position

The Tree Care Climber assists the Foreman with crew leadership and performs tree climbing, pruning, and removals. The role involves operating equipment such as chainsaws and chippers, supporting other crew members, and continuing to learn and develop in the field. Moon Valley Nursery offers training and development for a career in tree care. The position is full-time, based in Carmel Valley, San Diego, California, and includes travel of up to 50%. It is an experienced-level role with an open-availability day shift. Work may be scheduled on weekdays and weekends and takes place outdoors, sometimes in extreme weather conditions.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
Ability to follow specific instructions and safety protocols.
Applicable knowledge of climbing harnesses, tree gaffs, chippers, chainsaws, and rigging techniques.
Comfort climbing to heights of up to 60 feet.
Knowledge of proper felling techniques.
Ability to follow safety guidelines and OSHA standards.
Ability to follow ANSI Z133 and ANSI A300 standards.
Ability to communicate verbally with colleagues, managers, and vendors.
Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl, and climb throughout the day.
Ability to reach for, pull, lift, and/or move items weighing up to and over 50 pounds.
Ability to work outdoors for extended periods in potentially extreme conditions, including rain, heat, sun, and wind.
Subject to motor vehicle record and criminal background checks in accordance with applicable fair chance laws, rules, and regulations.

Responsibilities

Assist the Foreman and help lead the crew.
Climb trees to prune or remove them.
Prune and remove trees and shrubs.
Operate small tools and applicable equipment, including shovels, rakes, chainsaws, and chippers.
Help other crew members with tasks.
Clean and organize work areas and follow crew tasks to care for clients.
Continue learning and developing tree-care skills.
Perform other duties as assigned.
