About The Position

The Treatment Solutions Sales Manager will build and lead a dedicated treatment sales practice for a value-added wholesale distributor of water and wastewater infrastructure products. The position owns end-to-end sales strategy across Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, North Carolina, and South Carolina, using the company’s established reputation, manufacturer portfolio, and team relationships to develop the market. This is a field-based, hunter sales role with a long sales cycle, focused on technical education, early project specifications, pilots, and long-term customer relationships rather than catalog quoting or account maintenance. The manager will represent micro-bubble aeration and circulation technologies, engineered skid-mounted drinking-water treatment systems, and packaged wastewater treatment systems. The role works closely with consulting engineers, municipal and industrial customers, manufacturers, contractors, regulators, and internal account, service, and operations teams. It also coordinates post-sale execution through delivery, installation, startup, and operator training. The position is based in the Greater Indianapolis area and requires travel of up to 50% across the territory, including regular overnight travel. Compensation includes a base salary plus commission, with an initial commission guarantee while the territory pipeline is being developed.

Requirements

  • 5–10 years of outside sales experience in water and wastewater treatment, engineered equipment, or related process and infrastructure systems.
  • Proven record of consultative sales into municipal, industrial, or commercial markets.
  • Technical fluency in water chemistry, process design, and treatment data, with the ability to explain complex specifications to operators, boards, and city councils.
  • Working knowledge of municipal procurement, including capital planning, funding sources, design-bid-build, sole source, and cooperative purchasing.
  • Based in the Greater Indianapolis area and willing to travel up to 50% across the territory, including regular overnight travel.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, environmental science, or business, or equivalent technical industry experience.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the full technical sales cycle, including lead generation, discovery, system design with engineers and manufacturers, proposals, pricing, negotiation, and closing.
  • Develop the territory and build relationships with consulting engineers, public works directors, utility managers, industrial plant operators, state regulators, and contractors across five states.
  • Engage engineering firms early in capital planning to get technologies included in planning studies, preliminary engineering reports, and state approval language before bid day.
  • Manage manufacturer relationships, including product training, joint customer calls, project registrations, pricing support, and demand forecasting.
  • Support Account Managers on treatment opportunities in existing accounts and train them to qualify and hand off leads.
  • Coordinate with service and operations on submittals, delivery, installation, startup, and operator training to support long-term system performance.
  • Build market awareness through lunch-and-learns, technical presentations, and pilot and demonstration installations.
  • Grow qualified opportunities, pilot placements, and proposals across municipal and industrial accounts, progressing toward bookings and gross-margin growth.
