About The Position

Operate the Wastewater Treatment Plant at times independently in a safe and effective manner while maintaining facility discharge compliance. Record all required instrumentation readings, review data and take corrective action based on analysis. Performs required laboratory sample collection and analysis, take corrective operational action based on analysis. Monitor the status of facility systems, change processes from automatic operation to manual operation as necessary. Performs required system checkout procedures and calibration adjust equipment as required. Record keeping - data entry, logbooks, checklists, lab and calibration sheets etc. Perform routine cleaning and painting of all facility systems: buildings, tanks, equipment, flumes etc. Operate and maintain sludge de-watering equipment. Maintain plant operation and security status weekends, holidays and after normal working hours. Periodically drive UF vehicle, provide tours to the public, students and faculty. Performs preventive or repair maintenance on assigned equipment necessary for plant operations with and/or without the assistance of and in cooperation with maintenance and instrumentation personnel. Train operations staff when required.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • One year of appropriate experience (for Operator I).
  • Three years of appropriate experience (for Operator II).
  • Five years of appropriate experience (for Operator III).
  • Appropriate vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.
  • Possession of a current class C wastewater operator’s certificate (for Operator I).
  • Possession of a current class B wastewater operator's certificate (for Operator II).
  • Possession of a current class A wastewater operator’s certificate (for Operator III).
  • Proof of a State of Florida Class E operator’s license.
  • Valid Florida Class "A", “B” or "C" Wastewater Operators Certification.
  • Post offer health assessment and criminal background check.
