About The Position

The Treatment Nurse administers prescribed medications and provides treatments to residents in accordance with physician orders. The role observes residents’ reactions, ensures medications and controlled substances are handled and stored properly, and documents and reports services and changes in residents’ conditions. The nurse also educates residents and families, supports and instructs C.N.T.’s, helps assign daily work, implements policies and procedures, and promotes safe work and infection-control practices.

Requirements

Current license from the State Board of Nursing as an R.N. or L.P.N.
Ability to lead and motivate subordinates.
Ability to perform varied duties amid frequent changes to the daily work schedule.
Ability to work closely with residents, physicians, and staff.
Ability to work to prescribed nursing standards.
Good interpersonal and communication skills.
Interest in performing a service.

Responsibilities

Administer prescribed medications orally and by injection.
Provide treatments to residents according to physician orders.
Observe residents’ reactions to medications and treatments.
Ensure proper handling and storage of medications and controlled substances.
Observe, record, and report services provided.
Report changes in residents’ conditions to a supervisor and attending physician.
Document that medications and treatments were provided, as required by policy.
Maintain residents’ medical records through required documentation.
Educate residents and families regarding care.
Assist in planning, supervising, and instructing C.N.T.’s.
Assign daily work to support positive outcomes for residents.
Implement and maintain policies and procedures.
Ensure safe work practices and proper infection-control techniques are used.
