About The Position

This role involves controlling wood preserving operations in accordance with customer specifications and plant procedures. The operator will treat charges of wood in preserving cylinders, manage the treating cycles, and perform routine maintenance. Safety and environmental responsibilities are paramount, requiring compliance with all SH&E regulations and policies, prompt reporting of incidents, and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE). The position also includes operating and maintaining storage tanks and working safely with hazardous materials.

Requirements

  • Pass preemployment medical screening.
  • Possesses commercial pesticide license.
  • Medically cleared to wear required respiratory protection.
  • Qualitatively or quantitatively demonstrates a face to facepiece seal.
  • Certified as a powered industrial equipment operator.
  • Authorized as a permit confined space attendant and/or entrant.
  • Trained as authorized personnel and/or affected personnel for lockout/tagout.
  • Demonstrates acceptable retention level for the required training elements.
  • Trained to handle hazardous waste.
  • Able to read, understands and performs computer data entry of all related paperwork.
  • Able to read and understand gauges and recording charts within the treating area.
  • Understands boiler operation and maintenance.
  • Mechanical aptitude.
  • Clean shaven in the respiratory facepiece sealing area.

Responsibilities

  • Complies with all plant administrative rules, operating procedures, and safety rules.
  • Controls wood preserving operations in accordance with customer specifications.
  • Treats charges of wood in any of the preserving cylinders.
  • Operates treating cylinders according to the treating cycles set by Treating Supervisor and General Yard Supervisor.
  • Changes charges to cylinders, if necessary.
  • Closes and opens cylinder doors, steams, seals, pressurizes, depressurizes and vents cylinders.
  • Operates valves, sets, adjusts and takes readings of cylinder levels, temperatures and pressures.
  • Performs routine maintenance.
  • Assists in the operation of the boiler.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Performs all required SH&E responsibilities.
  • Promptly and properly reports all incidents, injuries, damages, spills and/or releases.
  • Promptly reports and, if possible, corrects all unsafe acts and/or conditions.
  • Wears personal protective equipment (PPE) required by the applicable PPE hazard assessments (including restricted use pesticide PPE requirements).
  • Completes all SH&E inspections assigned by management.
  • Performs required housekeeping activities.
  • Inspects treated charges for preservative drippage.
  • Operates and maintains storage tanks.
  • Works safely with and around hazardous materials and hazardous waste including flammable or combustible liquids.
