About The Position

We are seeking a Traveling Superintendent for a long-term career opportunity based in Charleston, SC. The ideal candidate will have an extreme commitment to safety, be a hard-working leader focused on superior quality, and prefer to manage the construction process from the field. This role involves managing the construction and administrative activities associated with the field operations of a project from day one, ensuring completion on schedule, within budget, and according to project specifications. ARCO, a Family of Construction Companies, is looking for individuals with 5-25 years of experience leading ground-up, cold storage or light industrial construction projects, 100K sq ft and above.

Requirements

  • 5-25 years of construction experience.
  • At least 5 years as a lead superintendent on warehouse or distribution center projects (minimum 100k sq ft).
  • At least five years of recent experience working within the Southeast.
  • Willingness to travel nationally.
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, Outlook, and project scheduling programs.
  • Possess and maintain a current, valid driver's license.
  • Ability to meet physical demands: standing/walking for long periods (sometimes on uneven terrain), bending, kneeling, crouching, climbing stairs, lifting up to 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

  • Attend post-award review meetings for project information and preplanning.
  • Participate in preparing construction schedules, organization structure, staff selection, and manpower/equipment requirements.
  • Direct and control construction projects to meet specifications, stay within schedule, and achieve profit goals.
  • Assist the project manager/engineer with material shipment and approvals of shop drawings/material samples.
  • Coordinate subcontractor activities for effective performance and integration with project schedules.
  • Inform supervisors and subcontractors of construction schedule changes.
  • Assist in preparing job progress and cost reports.
  • Review and approve requisitions, field purchase orders, invoices, and other significant reports.
  • Cooperate with the owner and representatives, providing updates on construction progress.
  • Cooperate with architects or owner representatives.
  • Hold job site meetings with the project manager and regional manager.
  • Report regularly to the project manager on job progress, plans, and potential cost/schedule impacts.
  • Maintain a daily diary of significant project facts, events, conditions, contacts, commitments, agreements, and approvals.
  • Direct adherence to the company's safety program.
  • Make decisions under tight deadlines.
  • Organize people, tools, and equipment; plan and manage multiple activities.
  • Demonstrate leadership skills, facing challenges, directing others, and addressing conflict.
  • Exhibit commitment to quality by evaluating processes, making changes, using customer input, and meeting/exceeding expectations.
  • Act with integrity, supporting the company, its values, and employees while focusing on customer requirements.
