About The Position

This position, located within the Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF), Data Modernization & Innovation Office (DMIO), focuses on planning, improving, and expanding Alaska’s traveler information systems. These systems include the 511 system, Road Weather Information System, and other intelligent transportation tools. The role is crucial for ensuring travelers, commercial drivers, emergency responders, and transportation partners have access to timely and reliable information across Alaska’s surface transportation system. The work involves operations, data, technology, public communication, and problem-solving to enhance how DOT&PF collects, manages, and shares traveler information statewide, directly supporting the mission to 'Keep Alaska Moving' by enabling safer and more informed travel decisions.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of various types of contracts, techniques, or requirements (for example, Federal Acquisitions Regulations) for contracting or procurement, and contract negotiation and administration.
  • Uses a logical, systematic, sequential approach to address problems or opportunities or manage a situation by drawing on one’s knowledge and experience base and calling on other references and resources as necessary.
  • Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral and written presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.
  • Knowledge of functions, principles, methods, and techniques of public planning, including those related to community planning, outdoor recreation planning, and natural resource management, such as demand forecasting, environmental impact analysis, financial forecasting, and land use planning and zoning.
  • Develops networks and builds alliances; collaborates across boundaries to build strategic relationships and achieve common goals.
  • Knowledge of the principles, methods, or tools for developing, scheduling, coordinating, and managing projects and resources, including monitoring and inspecting costs, work, and contractor performance.
  • Organizes work, sets priorities, and determines resource requirements; determines short- or long-term goals and strategies to achieve them; coordinates with other organizations or parts of the organization to accomplish goals; monitors progress and evaluates outcomes.
  • Understands and appropriately applies principles, procedures, requirements, regulations, and policies related to specialized expertise.
  • Post-secondary education in urban or regional planning, urban design, geography, community development, transportation planning, environmental and natural resources planning, economic planning and development, or closely related field; AND/OR Progressively responsible, independent experience in environmental, transportation, or community development; architecture; civil engineering; landscape architecture; urban design; historic preservation; geography; geographic information systems; housing administration; grant administration; accounting; business management; or research.
