About The Position

United Contractor Services is seeking a Travel Superintendent to join our field leadership team. This role will be responsible for overseeing self-perform scope on commercial interior buildout projects across the country. The ideal candidate will manage projects from initial layout to final closeout, acting as the primary field leader for crews and the main liaison with the general contractor. This position requires extensive travel, with lodging and per diem provided for assignments on the road.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of superintendent experience on commercial construction, ideally with drywall, metal stud framing, or ceiling scopes.
  • Willingness to travel full time to job sites throughout the U.S.
  • Solid layout skills on complex interiors, including laser layout and setting control lines.
  • Ability to read architectural plans, RCPs, wall type schedules, and specs.
  • Practical knowledge of rated assemblies, head-of-wall and deflection details, and drywall finish levels.
  • A track record of managing manpower and look-aheads on fast-moving schedules.
  • A strong eye for detail and high standards for finished work.
  • Clear communication with GCs, field crews, and internal teams.
  • OSHA 30 certification.
  • Comfort using cloud-based field reporting tools.

Responsibilities

  • Direct the full sequence of interior work, starting with framing layout and continuing through board, finishes, ceilings, punch list, and turnover.
  • Set daily crew sizes, develop short-interval look-ahead schedules that fit the GC's master schedule, and keep production steady.
  • Meet with the GC superintendent and other trades each day to work out sequencing, area handoffs, and field conflicts.
  • Work with project managers and suppliers to time material deliveries, stocking, and lift and equipment needs.
  • Guide foremen and crews with clear standards for quality, productivity, and accountability.
  • Verify installed work against drawings, specifications, and UL-listed rated assemblies, and have areas ready for framing, cover, and above-ceiling inspections.
  • Identify scope gaps, conflicts, and added work early, and back them with documentation for change order approval and payment.
  • Maintain complete project records, including daily reports, manpower logs, photo documentation, and change order backup.
  • Lead by example on safety, ensuring all crews adhere to OSHA standards and industry best practices.
