About The Position

This role is a 100% travel position based out of El Paso, Texas. Technicians will be required to travel to Altoona, Iowa for project work and will eventually return home to El Paso upon project completion. The Communications Technician performs fire-stopping procedures on fire walls, installs sleeves, pulls cable through sleeves and core penetrations, and terminates low-voltage devices.

  • Proven ability (or willingness to learn) to interpret blueprints and project documents, including specifications and quality requirements
  • Comfortable working at heights, on ladders, and in confined spaces
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and move up to 75 pounds
  • Must be able to distinguish colors, read small print, and recognize audible signals (e.g., dial tones)
  • Must be willing and able to travel 100% of the time, including extended stays in Altoona, IA, before returning to El Paso

Responsibilities

  • Install a work area outlet for floor (i.e. monument), modular furniture (i.e. surface mount box), and wall (i.e. box eliminator).
  • Drop cable down a wall using fish tape or other methods.
  • Route cable through modular furniture.
  • Perform pre-termination procedures: organize, form, and dress cables; determine length, slack, and label cables.
  • Suspend and support cable correctly using cable tray, J-hooks, D-rings, bridal rings, and trapeze systems.
  • Build telecommunications closets, including mounting and installing backboards, cross-connects, racks, patch panels, fiber optic components, and associated hardware.
  • Install grounding for racks, equipment, and cable as required.
  • Perform fire-stopping procedures on fire walls, installs sleeves, pulls cable through sleeves and core penetrations, and terminates low-voltage devices.
