About The Position

ChristianaCare is recruiting a Trauma Surgeon to join a collegial group of 13 fellowship-trained Surgical Critical Care and Acute Care Surgeons at our Level 1 Trauma Center in Newark, Delaware. The Trauma Program has over 5000 unique patient contacts per year, while EGS has nearly 4000. Our 22-bed Surgical Critical Care Complex maintains a high census. Christiana Hospital in Newark, Delaware, is part of the ChristianaCare Health System, a Magnet® non-profit health care organization, with over 1,200 beds between three hospitals (Christiana, Wilmington, and Union Campuses). It is the only Level I trauma center on the East Coast corridor situated between Philadelphia and Baltimore with a wide catchment area that draws from PA, NJ, MD and DE. We also serve as the tertiary referral center for the state of Delaware. Christiana Hospital, Newark, Delaware. This 1,007-bed, 1.3-million-square-foot modern facility provides a level of care only available in large-scale teaching hospitals. Christiana Hospital includes Delaware's only Level-I Trauma center (as verified by the American College of Surgeons), which is prepared to handle the most extreme medical emergencies. In fact, it is the only Level-I Trauma center on the East Coast corridor between Baltimore and Philadelphia. Christiana Hospital has also been nationally recognized in U.S. News & World Report's Best Regional Hospitals rankings as #1 in Delaware and #3 in the Philadelphia metro area, plus High Performing in 9 Adult Procedures/Conditions.

Requirements

  • Board-certified in General surgery
  • Board-eligible or certified in Surgical Critical Care.

Nice To Haves

  • Preference for applicants to participate in call and rotational coverage of the Trauma, Emergency General Surgery (EGS), and Surgical Critical Care services.
  • Interest and participation in the education of medical students, residents, and surgical critical care/acute care surgery fellows.
  • Preference for candidates to be interested in surgical research.
