About The Position

St. Joseph’s Hospital – Main in Tampa, Florida is seeking two Full-Time Trauma Surgeons to join the expanding Acute Care Surgery division. This role is within a Level II Trauma Center and is part of BayCare Medical Group, a physician-led, multispecialty group. The position offers an opportunity to practice high-acuity trauma care in a collaborative, academically enriched environment with robust system resources. The hospital is a 615-bed tertiary referral center with approximately 70,000 ER visits annually, ensuring consistent exposure to high-complexity trauma cases. Responsibilities include significant presence in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU), with opportunities to shape critical care management protocols and participate in quality initiatives. Surgeons will also serve as core faculty within a surgical residency program, actively involved in resident education, clinical teaching, procedure supervision, curriculum development, and bedside mentoring.

Requirements

  • Board-certified or board-eligible in General Surgery.
  • Fellowship training in Surgical Critical Care.
  • Preferably experienced and comfortable in high-acuity trauma care.
  • Strong interest in teaching residents and engaging in academic activity.
  • Team-oriented, collaborative, and committed to high-quality patient care.

  • Prior academic or teaching experience.

Responsibilities

  • Practice high-acuity trauma care within a Level II Trauma Center.
  • Manage high-complexity, penetrating and blunt trauma cases.
  • Work collaboratively with experienced trauma and acute care surgeons, Advanced Practice Providers, critical care, neurosurgery, orthopedics, and vascular surgery teams.
  • Expand responsibilities within the Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU).
  • Shape critical care management protocols.
  • Participate in quality initiatives across trauma and critical care programs.
  • Serve as core faculty within a surgical residency program.
  • Engage in resident education, clinical teaching, procedure supervision, curriculum development, and bedside mentoring.
  • Influence program development, care pathways, and operational decisions.
  • Utilize advanced resources, including data analytics and trauma performance improvement infrastructure.
