About The Position

BayCare Medical Group (BMG), the leading physician‑led medical group in the Tampa Bay area, is actively recruiting a Trauma Surgeon to serve as Trauma Medical Director at St. Joseph’s Hospital – Main, a high‑volume, academically engaged Level II Trauma Center. This role includes a 0.2 FTE protected administrative allocation dedicated to Trauma Medical Director responsibilities, combined with 0.8 FTE clinical trauma and acute care surgery duties. The ideal candidate is an experienced trauma surgeon with demonstrated leadership ability, a passion for program development, and a commitment to clinical excellence and academic engagement. Join a Level II Trauma Center nested within the busiest Emergency and Trauma Department in Tampa Bay, offering consistent exposure to high‑complexity, penetrating and blunt trauma cases. St. Joseph’s Hospital is a 615‑bed tertiary referral center with approximately 70,000 ER visits annually, providing steady trauma volumes and diverse pathology. Work alongside a well-established team of experienced trauma and acute care surgeons, supported by skilled Advanced Practice Providers who help optimize workflow, continuity of care, and patient experience. Enjoy close collaboration with critical care, neurosurgery, orthopedics, vascular surgery, and other key service lines integral to trauma performance. Expanded responsibilities within the Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU), with opportunities to shape critical care management protocols and participate in quality initiatives across trauma and critical care programs. Serve as core faculty within a robust surgical residency program, with trauma surgeons playing an active role in resident education, clinical teaching, procedure supervision, curriculum development, and bedside mentoring. Candidates with prior academic or teaching experience—or strong interest in education—will thrive in this setting. Requirements

  • Board-certified or board-eligible in General Surgery with fellowship training in Surgical Critical Care or Trauma/Acute Care Surgery
  • Demonstrated leadership experience and drive to grow and develop an established and high volume Trauma Department.
  • Demonstrated or strong interest in trauma program leadership
  • Strong interest in teaching residents and engaging in academic activity
  • Team-oriented, collaborative, and committed to high-quality patient care

Responsibilities

  • Lead, optimize, and advance the Trauma Program.
