The Trauma Registrar provides direct support to Trauma Services and indirect support to patients across the age continuum. The role collaborates with prehospital EMS providers, referring facilities, the Emergency Department, and inpatient units to collect and abstract data for patients meeting trauma criteria, support program planning and implementation, and ensure accurate, complete data entry. Success requires experience in medical data or trauma registry abstraction, attention to detail, and the ability to manage large health datasets. The registrar contributes to trauma registry operations by collecting required elements and coding clinical conditions and external causes of injury. The position reviews data and prepares special or ad hoc reports to capture injured patients who meet registry criteria, including specialty-code criteria. It abstracts, assembles, enters, and codes clinical data using Association for the Advancement of Automotive Abbreviated Injury Scale (AIS) and standardized criteria defined by the National Trauma Data Bank and state regulatory agencies. The registrar retrieves missing data, ensures registry information is complete and accurate, submits data to state and NTDB regulatory agencies on time, and resolves routine entry issues, seeking assistance from identified supervisors or specialists when appropriate.
