About The Position

The Performance Improvement Coordinator is an integral member of the Trauma Registry at Rhode Island Hospital. As the only ACS verified Level I Trauma Center in the state of Rhode Island, we provide essential trauma care to nearly 4,000 patients with traumatic injuries every year. The Trauma service relies on the Performance Improvement Coordinator to coordinate the performance improvement process that is integral to our hospital’s American College of Surgeons verification status. Under the direction of the Trauma Program Manager, the Performance Improvement Coordinator identifies performance issues, assures timely evaluation, assists with developing action plans, assists with implementing those plans and is responsible for evaluating effectiveness.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in nursing
  • Registered Nurse (RN)
  • AHA Basic Life (CPR)
  • Minimum of three years acute care clinical experience, preferably in Trauma
  • Experience in Healthcare Quality/Process Improvement
  • Excellent interpersonal skills required to work with various levels of professionals.
  • Knowledge of database management and Microsoft Office Suite required
  • Ability to represent the organization and serve consumers in a professional manner and promote a positive image of the organization.
  • Work requires high degree of initiative, judgment, discretion, and ability to function independently.
  • Must be detailed oriented and possess strong organizational skills.

Responsibilities

  • Identify opportunities to improve care of the trauma patient through attendance at divisional meetings and document these issues in TraumaOne, the Trauma Registry database.
  • Evaluate and validate Performance Improvement issues/concerns.
  • Collaborate with various disciplines and departments to develop action plans of identified issues.
  • Present the issues, evaluation and action plan to TPM, TMD and Trauma Committee members.
  • Assists in implementing the action plan and monitors its effectiveness through the PI Process and report’s findings to the TPM, TMD and Trauma Committee.
  • Ensures completion of action plan items and creates remediation plans if necessary to ensure loop closure on identified opportunities of care.
  • Maintains the documentation of these PI issues and plans in an organized, traceable format.
  • Establishes Performance Improvement filters to monitor processes within the Division of Trauma.
  • Develops focused review presentations for PI filters that exceed established thresholds and presents to Trauma Committee.
  • Actively participates in ongoing preparation for the American College of Surgeons (ACS) site visit.
  • Coordinates the Continued Medical Education events with the TPM and TMD.
  • Collaborates in a professional manner with all members of the healthcare team to promote the goals and objectives of the Division of Trauma.
  • Participates in professional development/educational activities to ensure advancement of skills and knowledge of trauma care and data information systems.
  • Complies with all institutional and departmental policies, procedures and objectives.
