About The Position

Join our Magnet designated Level I trauma team as a Trauma Outreach and Injury Prevention Coordinator!! This position works in collaboration with the Trauma Program leadership to positively impact trauma care within the regional trauma system. This position will lead out on Trauma Injury Prevention and Outreach for the Trauma Department. This encompasses facilities and EMS agencies that refer injured patients to Saint Luke’s Hospital of Kansas City as well as education and communication to the community about injury prevention. Collaboration will be done with the Trauma Program leadership to ensure compliance with the State of Missouri Trauma Statutes and the American College of Surgeons’ standards related to outreach, injury prevention, and performance improvement.

Requirements

  • BSN required
  • BLS, ACLS, PALS required
  • 3-5 years directly related work experience required
  • Registered Nurse - Various
  • Bachelor's Degree - Nursing
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support - American Heart Association or Red Cross
  • Basic Life Support - American Heart Association or Red Cross
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support - American Heart Association or Red Cross

Responsibilities

  • Represents Saint Luke's Hospital Trauma Program at designated community programs and other Trauma Program promotional events.
  • Routinely visits referral agencies within the region to identify customer problems and recommend/develop solutions in an effort to build positive relationships, promote the Trauma Center to others, and increase quality of care provided to patients.
  • Develops a plan to educate various target markets in the general public, business and industry regarding trauma and the availability of the Saint Luke’s Hospital Trauma services.
  • Sends follow up communication to all facilities that refer trauma patients to Saint Luke's Hospital.
  • Works with Trauma leadership to improve and develop the quality and research portion of the program.
  • Coordinates Trauma outreach educational activities with community agencies and smaller facilities.
  • Identifies injury prevention opportunities, coordinates and implements the education in the community.
  • Teaches the Trauma Nursing Core Course and the Rural Trauma Team Course.
  • Follows up with EMS about patient transports, sending follow up communication.
  • Supports the Trauma registry by identifying patients appropriately and abstracting the trauma medical records.
