About The Position

The Transporter works in the Patient Transportation department and is responsible for moving patients, specimens, supplies, and equipment to and from patient care areas. The role includes helping patients walk, transfer between a bed and wheelchair, and complete bathroom procedures. Work is scheduled for the day shift, with variable daily work times and 80 scheduled hours biweekly.

Requirements

• Ability to communicate effectively and present oneself to people in a courteous, tactful, and poised manner.
• BLS certification.

Responsibilities

• Transport patients between departments and to and from patient care units by wheelchair, stretcher, or ambulation, as requested.
• Perform other transportation duties as requested.
• Assist patients or health care providers with lifting and preparing patients for their next activity, including shoes, clothes, and assistive devices.
• Sign patients off and back on the patient care unit and check their wristbands before transporting them.
• Maintain the patient chart during transportation and keep track of the location of the chart and patient at all times.
• Protect patients through appropriate positioning and safe transportation.
• Maintain oxygen supplies and wheelchairs.
