About The Position

The Transporter is responsible for transporting patients throughout Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital using appropriate equipment, safely and in a timely manner. The role requires sound judgment in selecting the appropriate mode of transportation, respectful and compassionate interaction with patients, and attention to patient safety before, during, and after transport to ancillary areas. The Transporter also follows proper infection-control practices and precautions during patient-care activities.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Prior hospital transport or patient-care experience.
• BLS for Healthcare Providers certification.

Responsibilities

• Transport patients throughout the hospital safely and in a timely manner using appropriate equipment.
• Use good judgment when selecting the proper mode of transportation.
• Treat patients respectfully and demonstrate compassion and empathy.
• Maintain patient safety when preparing patients for transport to ancillary areas and upon their return to the unit.
• Follow proper infection-control practices and precautions in all patient-care activities.
