About The Position

UPMC Patient Transporters support hospital operations by transporting patients to and from testing, procedural, and nursing areas. They interact with healthcare services including Imaging, Nursing, Security, and Pharmacy, and may offer an opportunity to gain exposure to healthcare teamwork and begin a healthcare career. The department provides individualized on-the-job training.

Positions are at UPMC West Shore Hospital. Scheduling is flexible between 6 a.m. and 11 p.m., with 4-, 8-, 10-, and 12-hour shifts available, including weekday, weekend, and holiday shifts.

Requirements

• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions to complete transport duties.
• Ability to use transport equipment.
• CPR certification meeting AHA standards, including didactic and skills demonstration components, required within 30 days of hire.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
• Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting clearance, with renewal.
• Act 33 clearance, with renewal.
• Act 34 clearance, with renewal.
• Act 73 FBI Clearance, with renewal.

Responsibilities

• Inspect and disinfect transportation equipment used by the department.
• Record transportation data electronically in the Transport Tracking System and/or manually on department forms and logs.
• Deliver supplies, equipment, medication, and other materials to patient units and designated areas safely, promptly, and accurately; ensure medication is handed off to a nurse.
• Report transportation activity status and abnormal activities to the manager in charge.
• Transport patients and adjunct equipment between patient units, treatment centers, and designated areas using prescribed vehicles, safely, promptly, and accurately.
• Maintain a courteous, professional demeanor and communicate appropriately with patients, visitors, hospital personnel, and fellow employees.
• Follow written and verbal instructions and use transport equipment.
