About The Position

This position is for a Transportation Worker IV located in Duplin County Maintenance. The role involves a wide range of progressively responsible maintenance tasks in preventive maintenance, repair, and construction of state-maintained roads and roadside features. The position will also serve as a lead worker of a highway maintenance crew. Key duties include installation of traffic and erosion control devices, clearing of right of way, roadway grading, machining unpaved roads, pavement repair, pipe installation or other drainage tasks, snow and ice removal, inspecting contract work, and monitoring manual tasks performed. The employee will operate various pieces of equipment including bulldozer, excavator, backhoe, skid steer, tandem dump truck, front end loader, tractor trailer, asphalt maintainer, motor grader, roller, and additional heavy equipment as needed. The selected candidate must be able to legally operate CDL required equipment/trucks with both manual and automatic transmissions at the time of hire or within 360 days of hire date. Pre-employment drug testing is required, and a background check will be conducted. Safety toe footwear is needed.

Requirements

  • High school or General Educational Development diploma and six years of experience operating equipment directly related to the area of specialization; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to legally operate CDL required equipment/trucks with both manual and automatic transmissions at the time of hire or within 360 days of hire date.
  • Possession of a current Commercial Driver’s License on the date of hire, OR ability to obtain the North Carolina Commercial Driver’s License within 360 days of the date of hire.
  • Ability to climb, bend, traverse steep and uneven terrain.
  • Ability to work in extreme temperature conditions.
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs repeatedly and exert up to 100lbs of force occasionally.
  • Willingness to be subject to emergency callback.
  • Willingness to work during non-traditional work hours including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must sign release form (ALCDRG-01) and background statement (ALCDRG-06).
