About The Position

This position will function as a Transportation Worker III for the Duplin Maintenance Unit located in Kenansville, NC. Work includes installing traffic and erosion control devices involved in road maintenance and construction activities, operating a variety of hand and power tools, clearing right of way, repairing pavements, assisting with pipe installation and other drainage tasks, inventorying materials, operation of heavy equipment, and other assigned tasks. Applicants must have the ability to operate a small tandem dump truck. Duties of this position include, but are not limited to shoveling, raking, asphalt, flagging traffic, ditching, and shrubbing. The position may be subject to emergency callback and scheduled night work during adverse weather or extreme circumstances.

Requirements

  • High school or General Educational Development diploma and five years of experience operating equipment directly related to the area of specialization; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Ability to operate a small tandem dump truck
  • Ability to legally operate CDL required equipment/trucks with both manual and automatic transmissions at the time of hire or within 360 days of hire date
  • Pre-employment drug testing is required
  • Must sign a release form (ALCDRG-01) and a background statement (ALCDRG-06)
  • Steel toe safety shoes will be needed
  • Ability to work in emergency situations and inclement weather
  • Must be able to pass NCDOT post offer employment evaluation
  • Possession of a current Commercial Driver’s License on the date of hire, OR obtain North Carolina Commercial Driver’s License within 360 days of hire date
