This position performs full-performance-level skilled work in the repair and maintenance of all highway equipment. Under limited supervision, the Transportation Worker 3 Mechanic will often serve as a working shop leader, mentoring lower-level employees and mechanics. As an advanced-level mechanic, they will perform major overhauls of gasoline and diesel-powered equipment, including repairs of hydraulic brake systems and troubleshooting electrical systems. Skills are needed for the fabrication of engines and machinery parts from blueprints and drawings. With appropriate certification and licenses, the employee is responsible for driving the equipment after repairs to test its operation. The position involves maintaining records of work orders, inventory, and repairs completed. The employee may be exposed to hazardous working conditions and inclement weather. The selected applicant will be placed in a U.S. Department of Labor apprenticeship program, with progression dependent on hours completed, proficiency, training, and obtaining a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). This role may necessitate working irregular hours, shifts, weekends, and more than 40 hours per week, occasionally without prior notice. A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) will be required within six (6) months of employment.
