The Transportation Worker 2 Traffic Control reports to the District Seven Sign Shop and is responsible for the fabrication and installation of traffic control signs and supports. This includes the installation and removal of signposts, erecting traffic control signs and barricades for construction and maintenance projects. The role involves operating various equipment for sign installation, such as a hydraulic post driver, chop saw, torch, and hand tools. Additionally, the position assists with the installation of new or repaired electronic traffic signal systems, setting up lane closures, road closures, and detours signage, and flagging motorists through work zones. The role may also involve operating motorized highway maintenance equipment like skid steers, end loaders, utility tractors, aerial bucket trucks, man lifts, hydra platforms, and tandem-axle trucks. Employees may be exposed to hazardous working conditions and inclement weather. The selected applicant will be placed in a U.S. Department of Labor apprenticeship program, with progression dependent on hours completed, proficiency, training, and obtaining a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). The WVDOT maintains over 35,000 miles of state roads, which may require employees to work irregular hours, shifts, weekends, and more than 40 hours per week, sometimes without prior notice. A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) will be required within six (6) months of employment for this role.
