About The Position

The Transportation Staff member provides safe, reliable, and professional transportation services for residents within a federally contracted ICE short-term residential facility in Alexandria, LA. Working closely with facility leadership, healthcare personnel, family services staff, and security personnel, the Transportation Staff member is responsible for transporting residents to and from medical appointments, community-based services, airports, and other authorized destinations within an approximately 25-mile radius of the facility. This role requires strong customer service skills, sound judgment, attention to safety, and the ability to perform effectively in a 24-hour residential environment serving individuals and families from diverse backgrounds.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Valid state driver's license with a clean driving record required.
  • Ability to safely operate passenger vans, SUVs, and other standard passenger vehicles.
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain composure and professionalism in dynamic environments.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to maintain accurate transportation records and documentation.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain required background clearances.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English for documentation and coordination purposes.

  • Ability to sit and drive for extended periods.
  • Ability to enter and exit vehicles frequently throughout the workday.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout the facility and community locations as needed.
  • Ability to lift and transport luggage, personal belongings, supplies, and equipment up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to respond appropriately to emergencies and unexpected situations.
  • Ability to safely operate vehicles in varying weather and traffic conditions.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum two (2) years of professional driving, transportation, customer service, security, healthcare support, residential services, or related experience preferred.
  • Current CPR and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification preferred or ability to obtain prior to start date.
  • Experience transporting individuals in healthcare, residential, correctional, shelter, hospitality, or government-contracted environments.
  • Experience working with pediatric, family, or residential populations.
  • Bilingual proficiency in Spanish or another commonly encountered language.
  • Training in Trauma-Informed Care, crisis intervention, or de-escalation techniques.
  • Knowledge of local roadways, transportation logistics, and route planning.
  • Experience working in secure or highly regulated environments.
  • Experience working with diverse populations.

Responsibilities

  • Safely transport residents to and from approved appointments, services, and destinations in accordance with facility schedules and operational requirements.
  • Ensure residents are transported in a safe, respectful, and professional manner.
  • Verify resident identity and transportation documentation prior to departure.
  • Maintain awareness of resident locations and ensure accountability throughout transportation activities.
  • Assist residents with entering and exiting vehicles when appropriate.
  • Promptly report transportation delays, incidents, emergencies, or schedule changes to appropriate personnel.
  • Operate facility vehicles safely and in accordance with all federal, state, and local traffic laws.
  • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections and document findings.
  • Monitor vehicle condition and promptly report maintenance, repair, or safety concerns.
  • Ensure vehicles remain clean, fueled, organized, and ready for operational use.
  • Maintain vehicle logs, mileage records, fuel records, and transportation documentation.
  • Ensure all vehicle safety equipment is present, functional, and readily available.
  • Follow defensive driving practices and maintain safe driving habits at all times.
  • Complete accurate, timely, and thorough transportation logs and records.
  • Document transportation activities, mileage, vehicle inspections, incidents, and resident movements.
  • Maintain confidentiality of resident information and protected records.
  • Ensure transportation documentation complies with applicable contractual, organizational, and regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate closely with healthcare staff, family services personnel, case management staff, facility leadership, and other departments regarding transportation needs.
  • Communicate professionally with residents, staff, vendors, healthcare providers, and community partners.
  • Participate in shift briefings, operational meetings, and transportation planning activities.
  • Deliver services in a culturally responsive, trauma-informed, and professional manner.
  • Comply with all facility policies, transportation procedures, and contractual requirements.
  • Follow all safety, emergency response, incident reporting, and security protocols.
  • Adhere to all mandatory reporting requirements and facility safeguarding standards.
  • Complete all required trainings and maintain required certifications.
  • Perform duties in accordance with federal, state, and local transportation regulations.
