Transportation Services Representative 1 (Limited Duration)
About The Position
The Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) is seeking a customer-focused individual to join the Driver and Motor Vehicles Division (DMV) as a Transportation Services Representative 1 in the North Salem DMV. This limited duration appointment, expected to end on or before August 31, 2027, offers the opportunity to assist the public with driver licensing, vehicle registration, and permit/license plate issuance. The role involves administering tests, collecting fees, providing information on regulations, and conducting behind-the-wheel tests. ODOT provides training on vehicle laws, agency policies, and regulations. This position is benefits-eligible and has the potential to become permanent. Requirements
- Two years of public contact/customer service experience which involved dealing with the public in person or by phone providing information about services/programs or explaining and/or applying rules, regulations and procedures.
- Experience or training using computers to retrieve and input data.
- Three months experience collecting money and making change.
- Completion of an associate’s degree will substitute for one year of the public contact experience.
- Valid US driver license and an acceptable driving record.
- Must be able to type at least 30 words per minute with a high level of accuracy.

Responsibilities
- Assist the public with obtaining a driver license, registering vehicles, and issuing permits and license plates.
- Administer knowledge, skill, and vision tests to potential drivers.
- Ensure correct fees are collected.
- Provide information about regulations and policies.
- Administer behind-the-wheel drive tests.
- Help the public register vehicles and apply for permits.
- Provide exceptional customer service while following privacy laws.
- Communicate clearly with customers from diverse backgrounds to accurately answer complex questions in a way that is easily understood.
- Produce photo licenses, instruction permits, and identification cards.
- Administer, correct, and explain driver license tests.
- Conduct and interpret results of driver vision tests.
- Perform physical examinations of vehicles and verify vehicle identification numbers.
- Prepare daily bank deposits and account for sensitive inventory.
- Occasionally perform relief work in other DMV offices within the region.
