About The Position

This is a limited duration position with a rotation opportunity (internal state employees). This position may end 7/1/2027, and has the potential to become permanent. The position will be located in Grants Pass. Our Mission – To protect and promote resilient forests that benefit all Oregonians. You’ll be part of the ODF team that serves our fellow Oregonians relying on regulation and protection of both public and private forest land in our great state of Oregon! As the Natural Resource Specialist 1, you will assist the Unit Forester in the accomplishing of Federal Forest Restoration management objectives. These objectives and related duties are in the areas of Timber Sale Preparation, Administration of Timber Sale Contracts, Forest Management Planning, Reforestation and Intensive Management, and general Forest Administration. The primary emphasis of this position is on Timber Sale Preparation.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in Forestry or closely related Natural Resource Area OR Three years of experience in Forestry or a closely related Natural Resource Area.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to gather and analyze technical or scientific information and draw conclusions or make recommendations.
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing with a variety of people to answer questions and explain information.
  • Ability to write clear and concise status, summary, technical, or narrative reports.
  • Experience in computers and GIS, including experience with software such as ESRI GIS, and Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Access and Outlook).
  • Strong background in forest management including timber sale layout, cruising, logging system design, stand exam plots, reforestation, and other related activities.
  • Ability to be highly motivated working independently and efficiently on multiple tasks and issues.
