About The Position

The Transportation Project Manager is a pivotal role within our Transportation Practice Group, offering the opportunity to lead high-profile projects for IDOT, the Illinois Tollway, and various county and municipal agencies. This will be an experienced Civil Engineer with deep technical proficiency in transportation design and a strong to lead projects. This position supports critical design efforts and requires experience with MicroStation alongside the ability to manage multidisciplinary workflows.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in Illinois.
  • Minimum 8+ years of progressively responsible experience in transportation-related engineering.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Must have or be able to obtain and maintain a Real ID or Passport in order to undergo commercial airfare travel.
  • Must have or be able to obtain and maintain a valid driver's license.
  • Proficiency with MicroStation and OpenRoads Designer (ORD) 3D modeling software.
  • Experience with HCS, Synchro, and other traffic modeling software.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
  • Knowledge of Illinois DOT or Illinois Tollway standards and procedures preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Independently manage and execute roadway and highway design tasks for projects of moderate to large complexity with support and guidance of senior transportation engineers.
  • Oversee junior engineers managing daily tasks related to project deliverables.
  • Lead assignments including roadway geometrics, ADA design, drainage system design, traffic analysis, barrier warrant analyses, and maintenance of traffic (MOT).
  • Perform high-level design primarily using MicroStation and OpenRoads Designer (ORD) 3D modeling software.
  • Perform traffic studies and analysis using HCS, Synchro, and other modeling software as required.
  • Lead the development of preliminary design studies (Phase I), Project Reports, technical specifications, and quantity take-offs.
  • Act as a primary point of contact for clients; assist in scoping engineering services and developing fee proposals.
  • Familiarity with professional transportation organizations.
  • Ability to represent the firm at professional transportation organization events.
  • Ensure technical accuracy by checking design computations and preparing Engineer’s Opinion of Probable Cost (EOPC).
  • Manage engineering plan and permit submittals to regulatory agencies and collaborate with structural engineers on bridge-related elements.
  • Demonstrate strong project management skills and a willingness to tackle new or unfamiliar technical challenges.
  • Ability to lead a team of junior engineers and technicians on a project basis and with respect to career development and advancement.
