About The Position

The City of Aurora is seeking a dedicated leader to join the Public Works Department as the Transportation Planning Supervisor. The hiring range for this role is $96,237 - $120,409 annually, with salary commensurate with experience. Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Community and Regional Planning, Transportation Planning, or related field
A minimum of six (6) years of experience in planning, transportation planning, or a related field
Comprehensive knowledge of employee supervision, project management; planning and development; and personal computers with related software applications including word processing, database management and project management applications.
Considerable knowledge of current principles and practices of community and regional planning, with a specific focus on transportation and multimodal planning, policy, delivery and practice.
Municipal zoning, codes, budgeting, and public policy process.
Public presentation, interpersonal, organizational, leadership and analytical skills.
Writing skills and ability to produce reports using related word processing and spreadsheet applications while possessing a working knowledge of personal computers.
Skill in building and maintaining effective working relationships and collaborating with diverse stakeholders.
Skill in checking information for accuracy and completeness and correcting errors.
Organizational, analytical, and critical thinking skills for understanding issues and solving problems.
Skill in effectively presenting information.
Skill in computer operation using Microsoft suite Windows-based programs.
Skill in communicating planning concepts and policy.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, citizens, outside agency staff, and the community.
Organize and carry out higher level planning assignments, and present the results effectively in verbal, written, and graphic form.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet established deadlines.
Produce simple graphic diagrams.

Responsibilities

Oversees the development of multimodal transportation solutions through the implementation of Aurora Places and the Connecting Aurora Transportation Master Plan.
Leads efforts to identify and apply for federal, state, and regional grants and their implementation.
Provides interdepartmental multimodal coordination and serves as a regional liaison, fostering relationships with various agencies and stakeholders.
Supervises and mentors multimodal transportation planners, developing yearly work plans and fostering relationships to obtain grants and implement Connecting Aurora.
Supports Public Works and Planning & Business Development departmental leadership by facilitating and coordinating project reviews and concerns.
Serves as the City representative on external committees and working groups.
Assists or leads process improvement projects and initiatives; manages multi-faceted projects, including policy plans, ordinances, annexations, and site development.
Reviews and presents projects and initiatives to TAPS, Planning Commission, and City Council.
Makes project assignments to staff and provides mentoring and support.
Ensures compliance with professional ethics standards and rules of the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) and the American Planning Association (APA).
Responsible for tracking and managing on-time performance of staff, reviewing staff work and reports, and providing performance evaluations.
Supervises staff including scheduling, managing workloads and priorities, professional development, discipline, and performance evaluations.
Researches, develops, and implements innovative transportation planning methods including plans, programs, and policies for auto, bicycle, pedestrian, and transit infrastructure improvements.
Performs additional related duties as assigned.
