About The Position

The Public Works Aide is a general entry-level classification used across multiple Public Works divisions and programs. Incumbents assist employees with a variety of functions that support day-to-day operations. The classification may also include temporary employees, interns, college work-study participants, and others in jobs programs performing developmental or experiential assignments. The position works under close supervision, receives detailed instructions, and has its work reviewed. Supervising other employees is not a responsibility of this classification. Typical work includes maintaining light-duty vehicles, supporting parts inventories and deliveries, cleaning shop bays, operating material-handling equipment, transporting staff and vehicles, and assisting with fleet paperwork and surplus processes. The aide may also assist other programs and departments, participate in chemical hazard cleanups, and support Emergency Operations Center activities. Emergency Management assignments may take place at locations within or near the county and may require long hours outside normal business hours, including weekends and holidays, sometimes with little or no advance notice. This is a full-time, on-site position represented by a union and eligible for overtime. The typical schedule is Monday through Thursday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with flexibility to meet department or program needs. The position requires a current driver's license and acceptable driving history, and finalists must pass a criminal history background check and pre-employment drug screen, including marijuana testing. It is designated safety sensitive/special needs.
