About The Position

This position functions as a first-line professional manager of professional positions in a complex work area and serves as the supervisor for the Urban Travel Analysis Unit. The unit is responsible for the development, update, maintenance, and application of travel demand forecast models in 14 urbanized areas across the state. The models and related procedures are used to support the development of long-range transportation plans, region plans, corridor and sub-area studies, air quality conformity, and the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) investment decisions. Unit staff is responsible for maintenance, updates, and training related to the models and provides technical support and direction for bureau and department-level projects. The unit is also responsible for statewide transportation air quality conformity, coordinating transportation conformity activities throughout the state, and for the congestion management process. The "Salary" listed above is a range that reflects the minimum rate through the maximum rate of the Transportation Planning Manager 14 position.

Requirements

  • Possession of a bachelor's degree in any major with at least 30 semester (45 term) credits in one or a combination of the following: planning (city, community, environmental, regional, and/or urban), environmental studies and/or sustainability, engineering, statistics, mathematics, geography, geographic/geospatial information systems, logistics and/or supply chain management, or economics.
  • Five years of professional experience in the field of transportation planning equivalent to a Transportation Planner or Transportation Engineer.
  • Three years equivalent to a Transportation Planner P11 or Transportation Engineer P11.
  • Two years equivalent to a Transportation Planner 12 or Transportation Engineer 12.
  • One year equivalent to a Transportation Planning Specialist 13 or Transportation Engineering Specialist 13.
  • Attach a copy of official college transcripts and/or foreign degree evaluation with application.
  • Applicants with foreign degrees must have academic credentials evaluated or converted into U.S. educational equivalents.
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug test and physical (if applicable).
  • Criminal and driving records will be checked if applicable.
  • Prohibited from using artificial intelligence (AI) software of any kind in all areas of the selection process.
