About The Position

The Agency of Transportation is seeking a Transportation Operations Technician I. This position is responsible for various tasks related to highway maintenance, such as repairing guardrails, cutting trees/brush, patching roads, picking litter, ditching, and more. In the winter months, this position will also assist with plowing and salting, and overtime may be required. This is an entry-level position for maintenance work within the Agency of Transportation (VTrans) on the Bennington Team. The Transportation Operations Technician I performs various laboring and semi-skilled tasks while being closely supervised by higher-level maintenance workers. As the Technician completes training and gains skills, greater work independence is expected. The Transportation Operations Technician I also gains knowledge in the use of hand and power tools. On-the-job training is provided and there are many opportunities to apply knowledge and developed skills to road maintenance and repair work. The work is performed under the supervision of an AOT Area Maintenance Supervisor or higher-level maintenance worker. Newly hired CDL and non-CDL holders who are hired into permanent maintenance worker or mechanic job on or after July 13, 2025 are eligible. Requirements

  • No education or experience required
  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • A valid driver's license is required
  • Must live within reasonable proximity of assigned workstation
  • Possession of a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is required for the successful completion of original probation
  • Must complete all VTTC required coursework within six (6) months or be enrolled
  • Participation in a random drug and alcohol-testing program is required prior to operation of vehicles or operating equipment
