About The Position

The Transportation Monitor Special Needs assists the bus driver in the safe operation of the bus. This position rides assigned bus routes and monitors student behavior, supports the driver with safety and behavioral issues, and assists children with basic first aid when they become ill or injured. The position has no supervisory responsibilities. The posting lists 8 hours per day and 200 days per year.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• One to three months of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
• Ability to speak effectively to employees of the organization.
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals; compute rate, ratio, and percent; and draw and interpret bar graphs.
• Ability to use common-sense understanding to carry out written, oral, or diagrammed instructions and deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
• Regularly stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear; frequently climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; regularly lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.
• Close vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus.

Responsibilities

• Ride bus routes and monitor student behavior.
• Load and unload, and operate video camera equipment as needed.
• Assist the driver with safety and student behavioral issues.
• Write bus referrals and call parents about student misbehavior when needed.
• File written reports when unusual incidents occur on the bus.
• Assist children with basic first aid when they are ill or injured on the bus.
• Attend monthly safety meetings.
• Make seating charts for bus routes.
