About The Position

Perform maintenance, inspection, and repairs on a diverse fleet of vehicles and equipment, including electrical, mechanical, pneumatic systems, gas and diesel engines, and mobile hydraulic systems. This role supports aerial devices, digger derricks, medium/heavy duty trucks, light duty vehicles, forklifts, and off-road equipment. The position involves communicating and cooperating with colleagues and customers to maintain a safe and productive environment, operating a field service vehicle to travel to job sites, and preparing records of all maintenance activities. Willingness to work extended hours, potentially at alternate locations during storm events, and maintain an orderly and environmentally safe work site is required. Responsibilities also include directing assistants, instructing trainees, performing non-critical welding, and complying with all DOT, DOE, and OSHA regulations.

Requirements

• Must have worked at least 1 year in automotive industry or have automotive or related certificate or degree from accredited institution.
• Supply personal hand tools used in work up to 1”.
• Must be self-motivated and able to work without direct supervision.
• Must be a team player willing to work with other mechanics and employees.
• Within 90 days after employment obtain and maintain a DOT med card.
• Once over 21 years of age obtain and maintain a Class A CDL license within 365 days of 21st birthday or hire date.
• Within 90 days after employment obtain air brake inspector certification.
• Within 90 days after employment know Company’s safety rules related to the Automotive Hydraulic Mechanic and be willing and able to administer all approved methods of resuscitation, and be willing and able to render practical first aid.
• Within 30 days after employment know the location of and be willing to operate all life saving devices such as AED and firefighting equipment and know what kind of equipment to use on appropriate fires.
• Must be willing and able to complete all industry certifications and manufacturer training that applies to role and responsibility of position as identified by Entergy.
• Must be able to pass Fluid Power Test within 1 year.
• 3-5 years’ hands-on experience maintaining hydraulic, mechanical, electrical systems on mobile hydraulic and medium heavy-duty trucks. Vocational training accepted.
• Must have a class A Commercial Driver’s License and medical certification or be able to obtain within 6 months.
• Must have the experience or certification in welding and fabrication.
• Ability to use physical strength to perform required tasks in all weather conditions.
• Basic knowledge of Personal Computer operations and related software.
• Experience with engine diagnostic software.
• Ability to interpret electrical and hydraulic schematic drawings.
• Completion of the necessary training modules as set forth by the Safety and Training department.
• Self-motivated and dependable team player.
• Strong interpersonal and communications skills.
• Ability to work irregular hours and out of town assignments as required.
• Ability to take and understand directives and complete tasks with limited supervision.
• Ability to plan and lay out all work in a safe and efficient manner.

• Minimum education required of the position High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Mechanic I-II - 3-5 years hands on experience maintaining hydraulic, mechanical, electrical systems on mobile hydraulic and medium/heavy duty trucks, or combination of work and Vocational Technical training.
• Mechanic Sr - 5-7 years hands on experience maintaining hydraulic, mechanical, electrical systems on mobile hydraulic and medium/heavy duty trucks, or combination of work and Vocational Technical training.
• Authorization to work in the United States is a precondition to employment.

Responsibilities

• Support the maintenance of medium and heavy-duty bucket trucks, digger derricks, and occasional off-road equipment.
• Communicate and cooperate with peers, supervision, and internal customers.
• Operate a field service vehicle and travel to various job site locations.
• Prepare records on all maintenance activities.
• Work extended hours and potentially travel outside of the territory during storm events.
• Work in a shop location, performing work and maintaining an orderly and environmentally safe work site.
• Direct work of assistants and instruct/train other employees.
• Perform non-critical welding.
• Comply with all DOT, DOE, OSHA regulations and directives.
• Perform basic mechanical tasks using mechanic hand tools.
• Competently operate required computer-based applications (e.g., Microsoft Outlook, Service Suite, Web Time Entry, Maximo).
• Provide routine maintenance and inspection of Entergy leased, owned, and rented equipment after training.
• Perform Federal Department of Transportation inspections.
• Perform other miscellaneous utility work in and around the garage.
• Dismantle vehicles and equipment in preparation for repairs.
• Complete work orders with proper coding and information.
• Assist with any task under the supervision of a qualified automotive mechanic, supervisor, or vendor representative.
• Operate forklift, overhead crane, or other equipment for loading/unloading during fleet operations.
• Accurately order parts and ensure proper return of used or miss-ordered parts.
• Operate vehicles/equipment sufficiently to verify proper diagnosis and repair.
• Complete Hazard Assessment prior to performing any work and as the job changes.
• Attend and contribute to monthly and weekly safety calls.
• Complete all safety mandated training / computer-based training.
• Follow all Entergy Safety rules and work injury and accident-free.
• Complete time reporting daily.
• Perform all work tasks and customer interface with professionalism.
• Maintain a clean work area free from clutter and tripping hazards.
• Complete and document monthly shop and vehicle audits.
• Communicate with Fleet Supervisor, OC, and local Line Supervisors.
• Comply with all Environmental, Safety, State and Federal regulations.
• Be willing to work extended hours and potentially travel outside of the territory during storm events.
