This Transportation Manager 2 position, located at the Stark County Maintenance Facility, involves supervising employees, implementing operational and short-range plans, evaluating and improving work unit practices, providing technical guidance, coordinating administrative functions, collaborating with safety personnel on claims, inspecting highways for maintenance needs, operating heavy equipment to assess repair requirements, and overseeing equipment inspection and maintenance scheduling.

Requirements

  • 12 months training or 12 months experience in supervisory principles & techniques or management.
  • 6 months training or 6 months experience in inventory control.
  • Valid driver license.
  • For positions involved in equipment maintenance & repair, requires 3 years training or 3 years experience in equipment maintenance & repair (i.e., automotive mechanics &/or auto body repair), associated safety practices, & using/operating associated equipment.
  • For positions involved in bridge maintenance & repair, requires 3 years training or 3 years experience in bridge maintenance & repair, associated safety practices, & using/operating associated equipment.
  • For positions involved in route marking, requires 3 years training or 3 years experience in route marking, associated safety practices, & using/operating-associated equipment.
  • For positions involved in highway maintenance, requires 3 years training or 3 years experience in highway maintenance, associated safety practices, & using/operating associated equipment.
  • Equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment noted above.
  • If position will be assigned to operate motorized equipment of size & type regulated by Sections 4506.1, 4506.03 & 4506.12 of Ohio Revised Code, applicant must also have valid commercial driver license.
  • Ability to undergo a criminal background check.
  • Ability to submit to urinalysis prior to appointment to test for illegal drug use (medical marijuana is prohibited).
  • Required to register as a driver in the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse.
  • Authorized to work in the United States.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises assigned employees and implements operational and short‑range plans, including setting work priorities, schedules, equipment needs, and standard operating procedures.
  • Evaluates work unit practices, recommends long‑term improvements, and updates policies and procedures as needed.
  • Provides technical guidance to staff, determines material, manpower, and time requirements, and coordinates administrative functions with special project garages.
  • Collaborates with Safety personnel on injury and accident claims and ensures accurate data entry in the transportation management system (TMS).
  • Inspects highways to assess conditions and maintenance needs.
  • Operates heavy equipment to evaluate repair requirements.
  • Oversees equipment inspection and maintenance scheduling.
